City blotter for 2/6/12

The following was taken directly from area police and fire department records, or from DeKalb County court records. Anyone mentioned is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Thursday

At 10:55 p.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol in the 800 block of West Lincoln Highway observed a blue vehicle run a red light at Carroll Avenue and Lincoln Highway. The officer initiated a traffic stop and found the driver, Angel L. Randle, 31, of Chicago, had a suspended driver’s license. While speaking with the Randle, the officer smelled an odor of burnt cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. After searching the car and the passenger, the officer found a small bag of cannabis on the passenger, Isiah M. Johnson, 26, of DeKalb. Johnson also had a failure to appear warrant. Randle was charged with driving with a license suspended and disobeying a traffic control device. Johnson was charged with failure to appear and possession of cannabis. Randle and Johnson were both transported to the DeKalb Police Department where they were later released on bond.

Friday

 

At 1:32 a.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound on 100 West Lincoln Highway, and both occupants were not wearing seat belts. The officer initiated a traffic stop and could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s mouth. The driver, Pieter J. Kruis, 28 failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and without a seat belt. The passenger, Pamela R. Withrow, 44, of Sycamore, was cited for not wearing a seat belt. Kruis was transported to the DeKalb Police Department.

At 10:21 p.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a driver in the 100 block of South Pearl Street not wearing a seat belt. The officer initiated a traffic stop and smelled the odor of fresh cannabis coming from inside the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, the officer discovered a glass pipe used to inhale cannabis. The driver, Devin J. Iverson, 22, of DeKalb, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to appear and driving with no seat belt. Iverson was transported to the DeKalb Police Department and later released on bond.

Saturday

 

At 2:15 a.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle weaving back and forth in its lane and having difficulty maintaining a constant speed on the 100 block of North Annie Glidden Road. The officer initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued westbound. The officer used his spot light to shine light intermittently through the view wind shield and the side view mirrors. The vehicle turned northbound on Annie Glidden Road and continued northbound a short distance before stopping. The driver, Alex Guerrero, 31, of Joliet, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, improper lane usage, speeding and driving with a suspended license.

At 2:43 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a vehicle turn southbound onto North Annie Glidden Road from Hillcrest. The vehicle turned so fast that it slid and the rear passenger tire hopped the curb. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver, Daniel C. Clark, 23, of DeKalb, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. As Clark was being taken into custody, the passenger, Matthew J. Gillen, 20, of Zurich, attempted to flee from the scene. Both Gillen and Clark were taken into custody and transported to the DeKalb Police Department. Clark was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane usage. Zurich was charged with resisting a peace officer, obstructing identification and consumption of alcohol by a minor. Both were later released on bond.

Sunday

 

At 2:45 a.m., a DeKalb police officer on patrol observed a silver Honda Accord traveling southbound in the 100 block of North Second Street. The vehicle turned right onto the 100 block of West Lincoln Highway and did not use a turn signal. The officer observed the vehicle weaving in its own lane. The vehicle turned into McDonald’s west drive-thru and struck the right curb as it pulled in. The officer initiated a traffic stop and arrested the driver, Andrew R. Perry, 25, of DeKalb, for driving under the influence and over .08 and for no turn signal. Perry was transported to the DeKalb Police Department.

At 2:27 a.m., a DeKalb police officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound in the 900 block of Crane Drive, and the driver was not wearing a seat belt. The officer initiated a traffic stop and could smell an alcoholic odor coming from inside the vehicle. The driver, Clinton M. Lawler, 19, of Gurnee, denied consuming any alcoholic liquor. Lawler failed field sobriety tests, refused to provide a breath sample and was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Lawler was transported to the DeKalb Police Department, where he began his 20 minute observation period. After the observation period, Lawler provided a breath sample which registered at .042. The officer amended the charge to zero tolerance. Lawler was charged with unlawful consumption of alcoholic liquor and driving without a seat belt. Lawler was later released on bond.
