A poem for McDermott: ‘Gone too Soon’

By Ramon Holland

Editor’s Note: The following is a poem in memory of William McDermott and was written by one of his colleagues.

The light was extinguished far far too soon,

Charismatic and charming, a smile that lit up the room.

There was never a challenge he would not accept,

Or a person who knew him and thought of him with contempt.

A beautiful mind and a spirit that gave,

He enriched all our lives in his limited days.

As we pick up the pieces the challenge begins,

To honor our brother and remember our friend.

To live life as he did with our heart on our sleeve,

With integrity and charity for any in need.

So his journey ends but his legacy starts,

As we aim to be better people and keep his memory close to our hearts.

Rest In Peace Will.
