The Rant: no thanks, Chico

By Andrew Singer

Chicago mayoral candidate Gery Chico said if he is elected he will work toward bringing the Super Bowl to Chicago.

Jigga what? That has to be the dumbest thing I’ve heard since someone told me Jay Cutler isn’t a total panty waste. No one wants to be in Chicago in February, not even people who live there. Why in the world would the NFL bring its biggest game to a city that would have to serve beer slushies?

Last year, the NFL confirmed it will be taking the big game to New Meadowlands Stadium in 2014. That was a mistake, and the NFL will realize that as soon as it finds out the home of the New York Giants and Jets is actually in New Jersey. Gross.

Taking the weather out of the equation completely, it would still be super dumb to take the Super Bowl to Soldier Field. The stadium’s capacity is 61,500. Any stadium that wants to host a Super Bowl is required to have at least 70,000 seats.

My dear friend Gery Chico, there are so many things wrong with this one dumb campaign promise that you should be stripped of your candidacy.
