Campus crime blotter for 1/18/11

July 28, 2010

  • At 9:28 a.m., officers received a report of a female hiding in a restroom in Graham Hall from an ex-boyfriend, who was chasing her. Kordero Hunter, 20, of Country Club Hills, Ill., had attempted to gain entry to her car while she was driving and she managed to elude him so she could get to class at Graham Hall. Officers were to provide an escort upon her return. On July 29, an arrest warrant was obtained for Hunter. Hunter was arrested for criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to vehicle, stalking, and all other disorderly conduct.

Oct. 7, 2010

  • At 10:51 p.m., disorderly conduct was reported to have occurred at Neptune East. The complainant advised that she felt alarmed and disturbed by an individual’s behavior. She observed a person with his hands in his pants acting suspiciously. After investigation, no complaint was filed.

Oct. 16, 2010

  • At 6:07 p.m., a subject reported receiving a threatening letter in the mail. This case is administratively closed.
  • At 10:17 p.m., officers responded to the tenth floor of Stevenson Tower North regarding an odor of cannabis emanating from a room. Contact with the residents of that room produced drug paraphernalia, suspect cannabis, six bottles of ‘Mike’s Hard Lemonade’ alcoholic beverages and one bottle containing vodka. The residents of the room were referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for unlawful possession of cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of alcohol by a minor and unlawful consumption of alcohol by a minor. As a result of the Oct. 16 incident, a warrant was issued leading to the arrest of Adebowale Akisanya, 18, of Hazel Crest, Ill., on Dec. 8 for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Nov. 19, 2010

  • At 7:39 p.m., it was determined by Convocation Center staff that a subject was in possession of a fictitious ticket to an event hosted at the Convocation Center. Officers interviewed all involved parties. With no leads, this case is administratively closed.

Nov. 29, 2010

  • At 5:15 p.m., an officer was dispatched to investigate a theft from a motor vehicle. The owner left his vehicle parked in Lot A between 2:00 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 29. He found the trunk open and items missing. After unsuccessful attempts to contact the owner, and pending further leads, this case is administratively closed.

Nov. 30, 2010

  • At 12:30 p.m., a complainant reported someone had taken her wallet without her consent. The victim also reported that a fraudulent transaction was conducted with her debit card. This case is open and pending further investigation.
  • At 4:29 p.m., a subject was reported attempting to sell books back that did not belong to them. This case is pending investigation.

Dec. 4, 2010

  • At 10:41 p.m., a battery was reported to have occurred between two residents in Grant Towers South. Tuyen Vo, 18, of Glendale Heights, was arrested for battery.

Dec. 5, 2010

  • At 6:31 a.m., an officer was called to assist Access Control with a subject using false ID to gain entry to a residence hall. Officers located the subject who kept putting his hands in and out of his pockets while being questioned, then flashed a baggie of what looked like cannabis. Jermaine Link, 23, of Momence, Ill., took off running and was apprehended by an officer and placed under arrest for obstructing justice.
  • At 4:33 p.m., a theft of a bank card was reported. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 10:14 p.m., two friends had a falling out over payment of hair styling services. One of the parties felt threatened by the other. This case is pending investigation.

Dec. 6, 2010

  • At 10:45 a.m., a subject reported the theft of his textbooks. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 8:39 p.m., officers investigating the odor of burnt cannabis questioned an occupant of a room at Lincoln Hall. The occupant admitted to smoking marijuana and allowed a consent search of the room, which revealed a quantity of cannabis, a smoking device and a digital scale. The occupant was referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for possession of cannabis 30 GM and under and possession of drug equipment.
  • At 9:25 p.m., a subject at Stevenson North reported that someone threatened him. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 11:03 p.m., a resident of Grant South reported a residential burglary. When she returned to her room, the door was unlocked and she found several of her roommate’s belongings in disarray. The complainant was missing a pair of speakers. This case is pending investigation.

Dec. 7, 2010

  • At 12:33 a.m., Nicholas Jans, 18, of Rolling Meadows, was found in possession of a bong was arrested for possession of drug equipment. After exhibiting signs of intoxication and admitting to underage drinking, Jans was also referred to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.
  • At 1:09 p.m., there was a report of computer tampering. This case is pending investigation.

Dec. 8, 2010

  • At 12:42 a.m., a theft of several items was reported at Grant South. This case is pending investigation.
  • At 1:37 a.m., graffiti that was found in the first floor men’s restroom at Wirtz Hall was observed and documented. This case is administratively closed pending further information.

Dec. 9, 2010

  • At 9:53 p.m., a complainant reported person/persons unknown had entered his room and removed several his academic books without his permission. This case is open and pending investigation.

Dec. 11, 2010

  • At 4:48 a.m., officers responded to the Northern View Apartments in order to assess the well being of an individual. The individual voluntarily admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and being under the legal age to do so. This case is cleared for refusal to cooperate and forwarded to the Office of Community Standards and Student Conduct.

Dec. 24, 2010

  • At 8:30 a.m., a complainant reported that she set down her purse on the curb as she was loading her vehicle. Approximately one hour later she realized she had left her purse, returned to get it, and was unable to locate it. The complainant stated that she did not give anyone permission to take her purse or its contents. This case is open and pending investigation.

Dec. 31, 2010

  • At 5:52 a.m., the passenger of a vehicle stopped for improper lane usage and provided officers with several false names. He was taken into custody to ascertain his true identity. Once his true identity was ascertained, it was determined that the Oscar Barajas, 31, of DeKalb, had an active warrant. Barajas was charged with obstructing identification, obstructing justice and unlawful failure to register as a sex offender. Barajas was booked at the NIU Police Department and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

Jan. 1

  • At 8:43 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding. The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest. Chelsea Henricks, 18, of Naperville, was charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol and given an administrative sanction for DUI-Zero Tolerance. Henricks was transported to the NIU Police Department, were she was booked and later released on an individual bond. An item of drug paraphernalia was also found in the Henrick’s vehicle, and she was given a verbal warning for this offense.
