Having been on this campus for the past year and a half, I have seen repeated efforts by The Northern Star to discredit the Student Association to the student body. What bothers me most is that it has allowed for students to look unfavorably upon the SA as well as fill their minds with ideas that are simply untrue.

One example of this is The Northern Star’s coverage of the SA’s attempt at establishing a multiculturalism curriculum. One article stated that the idea was still in its preliminary stages and would more than likely consist of a number of already existing courses. Yet then you turn to the editorial page to see a cartoon that shows a chalkboard with MULT 101 written on it. What type of message is this sending the students of NIU? In simple terms a false one. If The Northern Star claims to represent the interest of the students, the least they can do is give us accurate and truthful information.

I would have to strongly agree with the idea of a multiculturalism curriculum here at NIU, not because of the information that The Northern Star has provided in its newspaper but by going directly to the source, the SA. I urge all students to do the same, at least there you can receive accurate information and make your own decision.
