Semi knocks hydrant out of order

One of the eastbound lanes of Lincoln Highway was closed for repairs Thursday after a semi-truck hit a fire hydrant.

The truck was making a right turn going eastbound on Lincoln Highway, said DeKalb Police Lt. Carl Leoni. It didn’t quite make the turn, struck the fire hydrant and scraped a light pole.

The hydrant is out of order and the water to it has been shut off, said Joel Mauer, assistant director of public works for the City of DeKalb. It is scheduled to be repaired next week, and there may be lane closures at that time, he added.

The truck driver was cited for disobeying a traffic control device, Leoni said.
