Club briefs: Men’s rugby, women’s rugby and lacrosse

MEN’S RUGBY

The NIU rugby team is off to a fast start. After stomping its first two opponents by a combined score of 180-8, the team got its third victory of the season by defeating Northwestern at home, 42-11. NIU is undefeated in the fall season so far. They will take on Loyola for the second time this season this weekend at home in the field by Stevenson Towers. In the first meeting of the two teams, NIU crushed Loyola, 107-8.

WOMEN’S RUGBY

After losing two straight matches to Notre Dame and Purdue, the NIU women’s rugby team bounced back in strong fashion. The team pounded Northwestern by a score of 121-0. The team is now 2-2 and will face the University of Chicago this weekend at home in the field by Stevenson Towers.

LACROSSE

The NIU lacrosse team was back in action this weekend. After winning the season-opening alumni game, the team traveled to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a tournament this weekend. The Huskies came away 2-1 after defeating the University of Wisconsin-Platteville twice, 6-1 and 4-2, and losing to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 6-3. The team will travel to Macomb for a tournament at Western Illinois University this weekend.
