Cubs forego Ryne-oplasty

By Andrew Singer

On Tuesday, the Cubs announced the signing of Mike Quade to a two-year deal to manage the team with a club option for 2013. While some fans may be disgusted with this turn of events, any logical baseball fan should realize this move should be celebrated. As opposed to going with Ryne Sandberg like a great deal of fans wanted, Cubs management went with the man who led the team to a 24-13 record down the stretch this season.

It would have been easy for the Cubs to go with Sandberg and satisfy the masses with the definition of a public relations move. But for a team that’s likely to struggle next year, it was the right move to choose a guy that knows the team and has scads of experience managing in the minors and several seasons on the bench in the big leagues.

Kudos to the Ricketts family and general manager Jim Hendry. You made one right decision, now you can go back to making all the wrong ones.
