MEN’S RUGBY

The NIU rugby team continued winning in dominating fashion this past weekend as it defeated the University of Illinois at Chicago at home, 73-0. The team saw its second dominating win in a row as it defeated Loyola two weeks earlier, 107-8. The team is now 2-0 in conference play. Northwestern will be the team’s next foe as it visits NIU this weekend for a matchup of conference rivals.

WOMEN’S RUGBY

After winning the season opener, NIU women’s rugby has lost two straight matches. Two weeks ago, the team traveled to Notre Dame and lost a close game. The Purdue Boilermakers then dealt the Huskies another close loss this past weekend. The loss to Purdue was not in conference play and will not affect the team in the conference standings. The Northwestern women’s team will also be in town to square off against NIU this weekend in the field behind Stevenson Towers.

WATERSKI AND WAKEBOARD

NIU made a valiant effort to qualify for the Midwest Collegiate Water skiing Association’s national tournament, but fell just short. The team placed 12th in the conference tournament out of 20 teams. The top 10 teams advance to nationals. Senior John Roberts was the top performer on the men’s team as he placed 12th in slalom, 8th in tricks and 14th in jumping. The men finished 13th overall. Holly Kulovitz led the way for the women’s team that placed 10th overall. She finished 10th in slalom, 8th in tricks and 17th in jumping.
