Egyptian calls in DeKalb’s wild to pack theater for free movies

By Heather Skrip

This Sunday, the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St., will be showing two free movies in the afternoon.

“White Fang” will be shown at 1 p.m., followed by “The Call of the Wild” at 3 p.m. Both of these films are inspired by books by Jack London.

The movie event is sponsored by the DeKalb Library & The Big Read, which received a grant for the fourth year in a row. The focus of the grant money this year will be on “The Call of the Wild.”

“The Big Read focuses on “The Call of the Wild” by Jack London so that’s why that we chose the movies,” said Kathy Keyes, Public Relations Coordinator at the DeKalb Public Library. “Every event we’re sponsoring throughout the month of October-all 66 events-focuses on “The Call of the Wild.”

Alex Nerad, Operations Director at the Egyptian Theatre, feels that by supporting the Big Read event, they are supporting the community, and the theatre is happy to do so.

Free copies of Jack London books will be given away at every event while supplies last. That is in addition to all of the events being free. Nerad recommends getting there early to guarantee a seat.
