Photo Poll: Victor E. Huskie

By Mike Buda

With NIU unveiling a brand new Victor E. Huskie Saturday, the Northern Star asked students what they would change with the school’s mascot.

“Bigger whiskers.”

Nathan Ewald, post-baccalaureate biology student

“I really don’t think they need to upgrade it. It’s been like that for years. I think it still looks good, not out of date at all.”

Matt Tiggelaar, sophomore physical therapy major

“I don’t think anything is really wrong with it. I wouldn’t change too much. If you change any more, people might get offended by it, and you’ve got to reprint everything. The VCB would be [angry] because they have to order new shirts, and they would be out the money because of the screen printing.”

Erik Wanska, sophomore marketing major

“There’s nothing wrong with the mascot as it is, but I guess the one thing is to modernize the mascot. It seems a little old school at times.”

Paris Buckingham, senior broadcast journalism major

“Honestly, I don’t know what would be wrong with a mascot. It’s a mascot. I think it’s fine how it is.”

Richard Whaples, junior chemistry major
