DeKALB | Jerry Kill announced team captains, also called the NIU Leadership Council, after the team’s practice on Saturday.

Six captains were voted on by the Huskies and then approved by the coaching staff. Senior defensive end Jake Coffman, senior linebacker Alex Kube, senior running back Ricky Crider, senior wide receiver Landon Cox, junior safety Tracy Wilson, junior offensive tackle Trevor Olson and junior tight end Jason Schepler were all named as captains of the 2010 Huskies.

“Being recognized by the players is really key because we know what goes on in the locker room, the coaches know what goes on in the locker room,” Wilson said. “You feel real good about that because you know your hard work is not going to waste.”

Kill also named the five quarterbacks on roster to the council as well.

Juniors DeMarcus Grady and Chandler Harnish, JUCO transfer Casey Weston and redshirt freshman Jordan Lynch and A.J. Hill were the quarterbacks announced as captains for this season.

“Every quarterback needs to be a leader,” Kill said.
