With help from the Student Association, University Plaza, The Seventh Element, and DSS Paintball, the NIU Paintball Club will be heading out to Lakeland, Florida this weekend to compete in the National Collegiate Paintball Championships.

There are expected to be over 50 different colleges competing in this season ending tournament.

“We are going into this tournament confident that we will have a good performance,” said President Dave Moore. “The team has created a flexible game plan that we all stand behind.”

The event will be covered by Fox College Sports, Fox Sports Network and Hulu.com over the summer. NIU is currently ranked 12th out of over 100 different colleges who have competed in the NCPA this season.

Women’s Rugby

Domination was the name of the game when the NIU women’s rugby team came together for a 44-0 shutout of the University of Chicago.

“This weekend the team showed major improvement,” said Jen Studer, NIU women’s rugby team president.

“We ran the ball hard and tackled harder.”

Freshman Brittany Zeller was the woman of the match, scoring for the first time.

The Huskies’ next competition will be this Saturday where they will host the Sixth Annual Tournament of Champions at the Sycamore Sports Complex.

“This weekend’s tournament will be challenging, but after this past weekend, I look forward to showing teams what we are made of,” Studer said.

Men’s Rugby

Continuing dominance of their own, the NIU men’s rugby team defeated Wisconsin-Parkside 41-12 at home.

“We started off really strong,” said Al Collins, NIU men’s rugby team president.

“Our back line played very well in the first half. We got off to a good lead, and our forwards really did a great job in the second half by driving the ball and controlling the game.”

Dan Westlund was named man of the match for the Huskies (3-0).

The men’s team’s next competition will be this Saturday where it will host, with the women’s team, the Sixth Annual Tournament of Champions at the Sycamore Sports Complex.
