F&J experiences third robbery Monday

DeKalb Police have a person in custody in connection to a robbery attempt at F&J’s restaurant, 890 Pappas Drive, Monday afternoon.

DeKalb Police Lt Gary Spangler said police have one suspect in custody and possibly two more suspects were involved in the attempted robbery.

Two F&J’s employees said three male suspects came into F&J’s looking for money; one of them was identified as a former employee.

F&J’s employee Christina, who did not give her last name, said she was standing by the register when the suspects came in the restaurant.

She said the former employee went behind the counter through a side door, went to the cash register and took out money. At the same time, an employee tried to prevent the suspect from leaving when the two broke out in a fist fight, Christina said.

She said the employee was able to get most of the money out of the suspect’s hands, but she was not sure if any money was taken.

The employee involved in the fight was seen being taken to the police station for further questioning. He appeared to have several scratches on his face and neck.

Customers Lewis Davis and Joe Wangler both witnessed the robbery and said the suspect jumped over the counter and took off on foot.

Davis described one suspect as a black male, 5 foot 5 inches tall, wearing a brown-striped hoodie.

F&J’s manager Joe Deland said this is the third robbery the business has seen since it opened.

The first two were “forced entry” robberies, and money was missing from the register in both cases, Deland said.
