Disoriented, naked student taken to Kish

By DAVID THOMAS

A disoriented, naked NIU student was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for medical assistance Saturday night, police said.

Lt. Curtis Young of the University Police said the student left his room in Grant Hall, Tower A and walked toward the elevator. Before going downstairs, the student smashed a glass container, with a firehose inside, with his hand, cutting it.

Downstairs, he proceeded to walk toward the front doors. Access Control called the UP for assistance. The student picked up one of the roped barriers Access Control sets up for checking in students after hours and started to walk away with it. The barrier got caught, and the student stumbled to the floor, police said.

He recovered, then walked outside.

“He just walked outside, and officers were able to make contact with him,” Young said.

After officers regained control of him, the student was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital for his hand wound.

Young said it is unknown what made the student disoriented. After reviewing reports, Young said the student did not make any attempts to talk to others. He also has not been charged.

“He did commit an offense of criminal damage to property, but he has not been criminally charged at this moment,” Young said.

The investigation is pending.
