Fazekas would be best choice for DeKalb mayor.
Many people who spend too much time in public office have submitted to the existing political culture.
They do this, in part, to maintain their identity in the community and secure their position in the social order. Often the political culture dictates certain behavior which includes appeasing a variety of interests, some of which the average citizen on the street knows little or nothing about.
Since our system is a representative democracy, we trust that officials will always consider “the people” when they make policy decisions.
However, if you read the local newspapers and the blogs, then you know this is not always the case.
This coming April, you can stand up to the existing political culture here in DeKalb and send a distinct message to your city government by electing Lynn Fazekas as your next mayor.
Personally, she is an intelligent, honest, committed, fair and articulate human being with the right temperament for the job.
Politically, she is an independent who has spent years speaking out everywhere from council meetings to the blogosphere — all with the intention of protecting you from entrenched officials who prefer that local citizens do not participate in the policy-making process.
Her level of civic engagement serves as a model for others to emulate.
