Let Fall Out Boy be Fall Out Boy

By HEATHER SKRIP

The cover of this month’s Alternative Press magazine features Fall Out Boy, with part of the cover declaring that they suck, while the other announces that they rule.

Why is it that Fall Out Boy is considered such a controversial band? AP sites the reason as that many people believe that FOB either rejuvenated or destroyed punk.

Whether people like their music or not, can’t they just let FOB be? Can’t they just be praised as a small-town, suburban band that made it big?

Although critics of the band claim that they “sold-out” and their following is now dominated by twelve year-olds who wear tight pants, I would assume that most college students would at least know a Fall Out Boy song when they hear it.

I, for one, acknowledge that while some of their song lyrics are cliché and their sound may or may not be attributed to machines, as a band, FOB has beat the odds. The constant criticism they receive seems to leave them unaffected.

The new album, “Folie à Deux,” will be released in December.

Whether or not the album will be well-received by critics, the singles from the album are sure to be heard on most Top 40 stations regardless.
