New service communicates greek organizations’ events

The Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council have entered the communication age.

On Wednesday an answering service was installed at the IFC and Panhel offices. The service gives greek organizations a convenient way of publicizing their events to the NIU community.

The answering service provides listeners with a list of all the important times and places of events going on in the greek community.

The Student Association and the Campus Activities Board also are encouraged to use the service for announcements concerning the greek community. The phone number for the answering service is 753-1466.

The service was developed to alleviate some of the problems that resulted in miscommunication in the past.

“Before all the houses just had mailboxes in the (University Programming and Activities) office and information wasn’t always spread around effectively,” said UP&A Undergraduate Greek Assistant Steven Pryor. “This way people will get the information they need easier and quicker.”

Pryor said before the installation of the message service a lot of information was spread by word of mouth.

Information will be updated every Friday. All fraternities and sororities are encouraged to use the service to publicize their events.

Pryor said he hopes the service will help to inform people about events that are going on in the greek community, and to create a new vehicle for fraternities and sororities to communicate freely.

“Any greek organization is welcome to use the message to advertise their meetings or events,” Pryor said. “This is a good way for greek organizations to look for volunteers for philanthropies as well as to publicize their fund-raisers.”

Forms are available to record information in the UP&A office. Forms need to be returned to the UP&A office by 4 p.m. on Thursdays if they are to be included in the following week’s message.

After listening to the message, listeners have the option of leaving a message for IFC and Panhel officers.
