Jazz performers wowed the cold audience with sleek and crafty sounds at The House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, on Monday night that hosted the NIU Jazz Combo Fest.

The various jazz groups featured star performances and highlighted the players’ abilities with many solos within the songs. The night was filled with many different styles of jazz including smooth and expressive pieces, rock music hybrids and songs with an enjoyable pop jazz feel.

The audience was incredibly interactive and seemingly enjoyed each song and solo the Combo Fest provided. Gracious applause was given throughout the evening by all of those in attendance.

Saxophones and trumpets were highlighted throughout the evening, and the pitter-patter of the stellar percussion kept the backbeat strong.

Soaring talent and high-energy music kept everyone’s toes tapping throughout the evening.

All of those who braved the cold outside were treated to a wonderful Jazz Fest inside, a perfect way to spend a freezing DeKalb evening.
