Flamboyant costumes, massive amounts of makeup ‘Time Warped’ their way to DeKalb this weekend.

Insert, a NIU theater group, along with College Activity Board (CAB), hosted a performance of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” to a packed theater.

“Rocky Horror,” a film released in 1975, has become a cult classic over the past three decades. The film is a comedic musical filled with transvestites, Meat Loaf and a multitude of other twisted individuals. In it, a couple becomes stranded on the side of the road and approaches a nearby castle to ask for a telephone. Little did they know, they’d be swept into a world of crazy nonsense.

Before the play began, the audience was asked if they had seen a “Rocky Horror” production before. Those that hadn’t were instructed to stand. The actors who played transvestites then came out and marked their foreheads with a “V” indicating that they were “Rocky Horror virgins.”

The movie was played on a projection screen behind the cast, and the diverse actors performed the movie, word for word, as it was being played. The cast encouraged audience participation and was very energetic throughout the show. The acting, as well as the costumes, were spot-on to the movie. Even the props and set mimicked the movie to perfection.

The hour-and-a-half performance left the audience laughing, and brought on a standing ovation at the end. The acting couldn’t have been better, and I left the performance wishing it wasn’t over.

This version of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a unique experience that was definitely worth seeing.
