Acai becoming more and more popular

By BRIDGET ORKFRITZ

Lately, while surfing the web, I’ve been running across a ton of ads for the Acai berry diet. Usually, I pay little-to-no attention to ads, but since I had been seeing this one pop up on many websites, I thought I’d look into it and see what it’s all about.

My first encounter with Acai was about a year ago at a coffee shop that started selling an Acai smoothie. I tried the smoothie, which brought a grape-like flavor with a hint of blueberry upon my taste buds. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and I was told that the berry was packed with antioxidants.

Over the past year or so, Acai has been popping up more and more in juices and has become readily available in supermarkets. The recently released diet consists of consuming Acai in either drink form or eating the berry itself. The benefits of the berry are that it strengthens the immune system and gives the body a burst of energy. Not too shabby. The only negative to the Acai diet is that some of its products can be a bit pricey.

Sounds like a good idea. I mean, who doesn’t want a healthy immune system, especially when we’re nearing flu season! I have to admit though, I was kind of shocked after researching this diet and finding out that it wasn’t some crazy “Don’t eat for a week and lose ten pounds” type of fad-diet. It could be looked at as more of a “add some Acai into your diet and it will be beneficial” health regime.
