Pink Floyd keyboardist dead at 65

In Memoriam: Richard Wright

When people think of Pink Floyd, is it Syd Barrett’s guitar or Roger Water’s bass that is most reminiscent?

Keyboardist Richard Wright, one of the original members of the group of musicians that we would come to identify as Pink Floyd, died yesterday at the age of 65.

While not as famous as his bandmates, he helped create that signature Pink Floyd sound with his work on the albums “Dark Side of the Moon,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Meddle.”

His solo albums may not have done so well, but he was an integral part of the Pink Floyd machine. He played on almost every record and was involved with almost every tour, being removed from the sessions of “The Wall” due to disagreements with Roger Waters.

He was one of the original members and key contributors to one of the most original and groundbreaking musical acts of all time, and for that he will be missed.
