Detox Nightclub starts off on the wrong foot

By HEATHER FOWLER

As many know, free parking is a rare commodity in DeKalb. For the last two years, I have been parking in front of Detox Nightclub, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway (formerly Bar One). Tuesday night I returned to my car to find a flier warning me that as of Wednesday morning, parking there would result in the towing of my vehicle.

I understand and respect that this business reserves the right to limit parking to patrons. After two years of free parking, I don’t mind purchasing an NIU permit. However, I would like to note a few mistakes made by Detox posting this notice.

1. Wednesday was the 17th, not the 16th.

2. The flier was placed after parking services had closed. Where do I park for my 8 a.m. class? Why not give a little more notice?

3. Doors open at 9 p.m. Most students park between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

4. Advertising specials on a flier that just ruined my week isn’t going to make me drink in your bar.

Adding insult to injury, the flier states that $20 monthly parking permits can be purchased (do the math). The worst thing that you can do when opening a new business? P- off potential patrons.
