Track squad takes first place at UIC

NIU’s cross-country club recently finished their season at a meet held at the University of Chicago.

The team was very impressive, taking first place in the meet and beating North Central College by five points.

“It was a great finish for the most successful season we’ve ever had,” said coach Dan Jacobson.

Runner Mitch Rubenstein was edged out of first place by less than one second with a time of 27:02, Gary Randles took third place right behind Rubenstein, finishing in 27:14 and Matt Rinenbach was in fourth place with a time of 27:22.

Kevin Temple finished with a time of 27:36, good enough for seventh place and Jacobson rounded out the pack in 11th place with a time of 28:16. Jacobson also expressed a good feeling about next year’s group.

“We are really excited about next year,” said Jacobson. “Of our top seven runners, we only have one senior (Temple). He’s going to be tough to replace but we’ll pull through.”

The club will be running in the OCR Thanksgiving Classic before getting ready for the track season. Anyone interested in coming out for track should contact Dan Jacobson at 758-8090.
