Huskies shock the Broncos in first game of series

Western Michigan 8, NIU 4

Western Michigan beat NIU in game two on Friday 8-4. NIU will earn a number four seed in the MAC tournament and are locked into finishing second in the MAC West.

Game three is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

NIU 12, Western Michigan 11

NIU (25-23 overall, 15-9 MAC) came back from a seven run deficit to beat Western Michigan 12-11 in the bottom of the ninth.

Danny Reed scored the winning run off of a wild pitch from the Bronco right-hander Derek Mosher.

NIU scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth, including a three run home run by Bobby Stevens to pull the game to within two runs. The Huskies added two more thus far in the ninth to tie.

The Broncos (28-20-1 overall, 11-11 MAC) hit five home runs in the first four innings, making up eight of their 11 runs.

NIU and Western had a combined seven errors on the day.
