Shoppers can get a whole new style for a whole lot less.

In DeKalb, thrift and vintage shops offer unique looks from a wide range of selection and price.

Country Store

659 E. Lincoln Highway

Type: Thrift store

What they sell: Clothing, shoes, purses, knick-knacks, linens, books, jewelry, toys

Price range: About $.25 to $30, depending on the item; clothing costs an average of $1.50 to $3; coats cost an average of $15 to $20

Origin of Items: Donated

Donate/Sell: Anyone can donate by bringing the items into the store during store hours and may receive a tax receipt.

Cracker Jax

Price Range: About $1 to $200, average price is about $20 to $40

What they sell: Vintage clothing, purses, jewelry, incense, accessories, gift packages

Origin of Items: Variety of different places including vendors, private parties, consignment

Donate/Sell: Sell on consignment. Those interested should call to set up an appointment to have items looked at.

Encore Clothing

Origin: Sell on consignment (original owner receives 40 percent of the profit)

Donate/Sell: Anyone interested in selling items by consignment must set up an appointment by phone or in store.

Donate/Sell: Anyone interested in selling items to the store can call the owner to go over procedures and the list of requirements for the store to be able to purchase the items. Credit for items is given in cash or store credit.

Origin of Items: Owner used to be an antique dealer and has connections with Chicago estates

Donate/Sell: Generally doesn’t buy things from people, more items in bulk or whole estates.

The Salvation Army

Type: The Salvation Army’s thrift store

What they sell: Clothes, furniture, appliances, accessories, toys, electronics

Price Range: About $.25 to $150, depending on the items; average price range of clothes is $2

Origin of Items: Donated from DeKalb and surrounding areas

What they sell: Small tables, architectural items such as old ceiling tin, old raw iron, pottery, glassware, vintage typewriter key necklaces, decorative items for home and garden

Origin of Items: From owner’s collection, antique dealers and vendors.
