DeKALB | About 50 Northern Star alumni and staff gathered at O’Leary’s Pub Saturday night to induct members into its Hall of Fame. The annual banquet, started in 2000, was created to honor former staff members, advisers and friends for their impact upon the paper. In all, five members were inducted for their service, including:

* Carol Jouzaitis, class of 1975, who covered the White House for the Chicago Tribune and now works in public relations;

* Bruce Ladd, class of 1958, who pioneered the Illinois Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information laws;

* Markos Moulitsas, class of 1996, who started one of the most influential political blogs in the country, the Daily Kos;

* Denise Schoenbachler, friend of the Star, who serves as the College of Business’ dean and who has helped the paper conduct market research;

* Lois Self, friend of the Star, who served as the chair of the Department of Communication, for her service to the paper and the Journalism Department.

Additionally, Matt Bute, class of 1999, won an award for Outstanding Young Alumni. Bute currently works for the Chicago Tribune’s Advertising Department and previously served as Advertising Manager for its RedEye publication.
