To volunteers

The Adventures in Barbland project was a success due to the dedication and support from the Northern student volunteers, faculty, staff and community members. Four hundred and fourteen volunteers from NIU helped to build the Barbland Playground during the build week September 22-26. Such involvement demonstrates the willingness to take the time out and work in the community. Through rain and shine, volunteers worked for five days.

The NIU Student Volunteer Corps worked with the Student Association, Residence Hall Association, PanHellenic Council, National PanHellenic Council and Interfraternity Council to gather volunteers and promote this project. The NIU Student Volunteer Corps would like to thank the organizations and all the volunteers who helped make the project a success.

The volunteers gave something back to the community. A playground where children can play and enjoy themselves. It is through this kind of dedication that we need emulate to others that volunteering makes a difference.

The Student Volunteer Corps (SVC) is a state initiated program created to provide NIU students opportunities in participating in community or service activity. You can find out more information about the program in the comprehensive Leadership and Volunteer Resource Center in the Programming and Activities Office, 6th Floor, Holmes Student Center.
