2.0 is safe for now

DeKALB | Student Association members hoping to raise the minimum GPA of SA senators will have to wait.

The SA struck down a proposal to allow former Senator Dawn Procopio to remain the sponsor of a bill that would increase the minimum GPA of SA members from 2.0 to 2.5 by a vote of 13-8 Sunday at the Sky Room of the Holmes Student Center. Six members abstained from voting.

The SA voted to replace Procopio, who is no longer a senator, but no remaining senator volunteered to become sponsor of the bill, so the bill was tabled and sent back to Rules Committee.

“Maybe the bill will get a sponsor later when some of the problems are worked out,” said Senator Olivia Nesterowicz.

Speaker Robert Batey announced that he would not run for re-election as speaker.

The SA also announced three vacancies due to graduation and resignation. Procopio and former senators Jose Nepomuceno and Jason Kazmierczak will be replaced at the next election.

The SA will not meet next week, due to the Super Bowl, but will reconvene Sunday, Feb. 11, to discuss the upcoming executive elections.
