DeKALB | The championship for intramural sports’ five-on-five basketball classic were held Thursday night at the Campus Recreation Center.

The Loverboys and Kootnt battled for the competitive division championship.

In the first half, both teams exchanged baskets early. By halftime, the Loverboys were up 21-20.

“We were up most of the first half,” said Loverboys player Kevin Hoffman. “But they went to a zone to stop us.”

The zone wasn’t the only thing that hurt the Loverboys in the game. Turnovers and quick shots turned this close game into a blooper show. Both teams combined for 13 turnovers in the second half.

With three minutes left in the game, Kootnt went on a 7-0 run with Edward Jackson scoring five of the seven and defeated the Loverboys 40-34.

Jackson said he was happy his team pulled this game out.

“The team throughout this tournament kind of layed down in the second half,” Jackson said. “I told my team tonight we couldn’t do that. This was a big game.”

On Wednesday night, the highly competitive division championship game was played. The Evans Scholars defeated Blueprint 53-48.
