Making it look easy

DeKALB | After losing a close game to DePaul Saturday, the NIU women’s basketball team looked to take its frustration out on Chicago State.

It got the job done.

The Huskies ran away with a 73-46 victory over the Cougars at the Convocation Center on Tuesday night.

“Today we got a win,” NIU coach Carol Owens said. ” Overall I think we played a good game. We still need to improve on both sides of the ball.”

In this game, both sides of the ball clicked on all cylinders.

In the first Half, NIU took control of the game early.

Huskies guard Stephanie Raymond scored the game’s first points off a three pointer and a driving lay-up.

That early spurt and solid defense helped the Huskies stretch the lead to 44-15 by halftime.

“We did some good things on defense today,” Owens said. “We want our opponents shooting low percentage shots and that’s what we did today.”

Solid defense wasn’t the only thing the Huskies accomplished. NIU out rebounded the Cougars 49-26. Owens said she wasn’t surprised.

“Rebounding is what we concentrate on everyday,” Owens said. “We were last year, and we want to continue to be that.”

The Huskies had four player in double digits with Kristin Wiener leading with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Ayesha Neasley led the Cougars with 12 points.
