House to host Halloween show

Saturday, the House Cafe, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, will host its Second Annual Halloween Bash. The premise: all the bands will perform as other bands, including playing their songs.

The event begins at 8 p.m. and costs $6, or $5 with a costume.

This year, The City on Film —which features indie icon Bob Nanna — will perform as Queen. Also, Inspector Owl will don Weezer’s catalogue, The Felix Culpa will be U2, Light Pollution is slated to act as Bruce Springsteen and the E. Street Band, while The Honeybear Wild will copy Spinal Tap. Lastly, Heligoats will perform as a yet-to-be-determined act.

John Ugolini of Kickstand Productions will host the show, and expects a capacity crowd after last year’s turnout.

However, Ugolini has some special hopes for this year’s show that reach beyond mere attendance.

“We have all seen the sexy devil or the sexy angel,” Ugolini said. “I, personally, would like to see a sexy Jesus. I would be equally pleased with any sexy versions of any other deities or demigods.”

In addition to live music, there will be a costume contest and a “best scary story” contest for ambitious concert-goers. Prizes will include — according to Ugolini — a VHS copy of the first season of TV’s “Coach,” starring Craig T. Nelson and Bill Faberbakke. There will be no other surprises throughout the course of the night.

Ugolini has a few pieces of advice for potential Halloween celebrants.

“I think it is important that people know that the whole ‘razor blade in the apple’ deal is a myth.” he said. “It is also important to steer clear of those generic black and orange candies. Ration your candy corn wisely.”
