Individual achievements were the only thing the men’s golf team could celebrate this weekend, as the Huskies finished sixth at the MAC championships in Indiana.

Nick Schenk became the first NIU golfer in nine years to receive first-team All MAC status as chosen by the team’s coaches.

“There’s no question Nick is a solid golfer and a consistently good player, although he had some troubles in the middle of this event,” said NIU coach John Cleary. “His 70 [for Saturday’s final 18 holes] was the second best score for the final round despite some chilly and windy conditions that made the course play that much tougher. That’s why so many scores were higher.”

The junior finished 49’1″ in the shot put, which broke the school record. The previous record was 48’1 ¾”. She also added a second place mark in the discus with 141’3″ and won a third place award for the hammer throw at 172’1″.

To add to the Huskies’ list, jump specialist Elizabeth Berquist finished in first place for the high jump with a 5’5 ¼” mark. Sprinter Lorene Skipper broke her school record with a 2:12.36 800 meter run.

Senior Ajahnae Hinley placed third for the 400 meter run with a time of 56.32.
