Hagemann snags second pitching award

By Lacy Searcy

Taryn Hagemann’s work is not going unnoticed. The pitcher was honored once again as MAC West pitcher of the week for the second week in a row. On March 14 Hagemann pitched five no-hit innings against Buffalo. In her past eight appearances, the right hander has given up six earned runs in 40.2 innings of work, giving her a 1.03 ERA.

“It’s great that Taryn is being recognized for what she’s been doing lately,” said NIU coach Donna Martin. “To be pitcher of the week once is great, but to get it twice is even a bigger honor. Taryn has been working very hard and deserves this honor.”

Swinging a hot bat

With 18 games gone by for the Huskies, slugger Michelle Nendza put up consistent numbers. The sophomore has three home runs to go with 10 RBIs. Her slugging percentage is a team-high .609.

Return TBD

No specific date is set, but senior pitcher Lindsey LaChiana will be back with the team shortly.

She is out because of a death in the family, Martin said. LaChiana led the Huskies in ERA last season.

Ready for some MAC action

The Huskies now will start their MAC schedule next week. Their first MAC opponent will be Central Michigan on March 31 at Mount Pleasant, Mich.

Home games, finally
