String of stolen cars, burglaries hit area

By Andrew Schlesser

The DeKalb Police Department reported unknown perpetrators burglarized two houses and crashed two stolen cars in a neighborhood on the north side of town Friday night.

One house was located in the 1500 block of Huntington Road and the other nearby in the 400 block of Laurel Lane, police said.

The perpetrators allegedly stole the two cars from the house on Huntington Road and later abandoned them in a close by neighborhood after both cars had been involved in traffic collisions.

The burglars also stole a one-gallon jar containing change, a Tommy Hilfiger duffel bag and an NIU Huskie Rhinestone pin from the Laurel Lane residence. The items have not yet been recovered.

Police believe both burglaries were committed by the same people.
