The Barn ineligible to renew state liquor license

The Barn was shut down due to tax technicalities and will not be able to sell any liquor until an emergency liquor commission hearing is held within the next seven days.

Mayor Frank Van Buer gave an order of closure to The Barn, 1215 Blackhawk Road, at midnight last night for failing to pay a required retail inoculation tax, said DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen.

The Barn’s failure to pay made it ineligible for the renewal of its Illinois state liquor license which expired last night, Feithen said.

“Typically, what happens in cases like this is simply a matter of paying the sales tax and having them apply for the state license and then again for the city,” Feithen said.

The Barn was banned from selling liquor but will still be able to operate as a restaurant, he said.

The Barn, along with Molly’s Eatery and Drinkery, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway , may possibly face charges for allowing minors onto the premises while Mardi Gras Lanes, 1730 Sycamore Road, may possibly face charges for allowing minors into its bar area last Saturday night.

DeKalb police are still waiting for the Illinois State Police to put together the paperwork from the underage liquor consumption stings from this past weekend, Feithen said.
