The Living Blue shares current favorites

By Christopher Strupp

Indie rock band, The Living Blue, plays The House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, at 8 p.m. tonight.

The band members took the time beforehand to let us know what records they are listening to at the moment.

British Sea Power — “Open Season” — “This record makes me wistful and light-headed. I love the production of the record and the songs are killer.”

Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band — “Safe As Milk” — “The Beefheart’s band is top notch on this record. Laying down primal rhythms intertwined with psych/blues/pop.”

Dead Meadow — “Feathers” — “I love the laid back psych guitar songs on this record. It sounds like you’ve just taken a bunch of Percocet and your friend has a really good delay pedal and you’re just hanging out jammin’.”

The Byrds — “5th Dimension” — “Hands down the best Byrd’s record. Great songs, 12 string guitars, but with a psychedelic edge. You can tell these guys we’re delving into some serious stuff.”

Animal Collective — “Feels” — “This record makes me want to jump like a monkey from tree to tree, scratch myself, and smell the jungle, bees swarming around my head…”

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band — “Greetings From Asbury Park” — “The songs and energy on this record make it my favorite Bruce by far. ‘The Flood’ gives me chills.”

Comets On Fire — “Blue Cathedral” — “This is a great record to drive to, especially when crossing a mountain range or driving over a bayou … or rolling across a desert.”

Echo & the Bunnymen — “Songs to Learn and Sing” — “Oh the drama! And the drums! I like the dark, mysteriousness about this band.”

The Clash — “London Calling” — “I love this record deeply. ‘Spanish Bombs’ is a great song to dance to. The whole record is brilliant.”

13th Floor Elevators — Cd that Mark burned for the tour — “I never realized how good this band was … more of the psych out blues, but Roky is really out there. I love primal music and I want to jump around like a monkey and have sex in a tree.”
