Students prepare for real deal

Today’s spring Job Fair will attract 217 employers, giving it the highest turnout in four years.

The event will take place at the Convocation Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and students are encouraged to arrive early.

“I would encourage students to go online and look at the list of employers,” Career Services Coordinator Cindy Henderson said. “Also, using the Victor E. Recruiting Web site is a good idea.”

Henderson said employers will look for students who are well prepared and professional.

“Have an introduction prepared. A lot of people expect their resumes to sell themselves,” said Felicia McKinney, a regional recruiting supervisor at Enterprise.

McKinney, an NIU alumna, started a job with Enterprise after going to the fair and has since been promoted five times.

McKinney recommends stating your name and major first, so the employer has something to work with, then handing in your resume.

The Career Services staff will be on hand to help students who seem hesitant. Also, a drawing will be held every hour for students to win gift certificates.
