Bar One on ice

By Andrew Schlesser

As liquor commissioner, Mayor Frank Van Buer agreed to a laundry list of fines for Bar One, totalling $45,000, a 15-day suspension and a mandatory change of ownership.

Bar One, 1000 W. Lincoln Highway, has to pay the fine and serve the suspension before April 15, City Attorney Norma Guess said.

The establishment also must be sold by that day or owners Joey and Jimmy Sanfilippo will have to turn over the Class A liquor license.

The Sanfilippos will not be permitted on the premises of Molly’s Eatery and Drinkery, 1022 W. Lincoln Highway, or The Bottle Store, of the same address, after April 15, Guess said.

A buyer for Bar One has already submitted a liquor license application and it is under review, Guess said. Molly’s and The Bottle Store go up for sale as well.

About one year ago, Bar One’s owners were arrested after police discovered they had fabricated surveillance video in order to escape charges that they allowed a 19 year-old girl past the front door.
