Numerous cars crash over weekend

A number of car accidents kept the DeKalb County police busy over the holiday weekend.

At 12:15 a.m. Saturday, a cow wandered onto Route 38 just east of County Line Road in Maple Park and was struck by a car.

The driver, Dale Stephen, was unable to avoid the cow, police said. The condition of the animal is unknown.

On Thursday, a truck struck a bridge bulkhead and flipped over at 3:37 a.m. in Shabbona.

The driver, Sean P. Isaacson, 20, of Waterman, said he can only recall talking on the phone and then setting his phone down.

The snowfall Friday caused problems for drivers out on rural roads.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s department responded to seven single car accidents Friday between 4 and 6 p.m.

All of the drivers involved in these accidents were between the ages of 17 and 22 years old.

One accident occurred on Cherry Valley Road just west of Glidden Road in DeKalb.

The driver, Alicia M. Nealan, 21, of Merengo, lost control of her car and struck a utility pole at 5:26 p.m.

Nealan was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, 626 Bethany Road, for treatment.

A similar accident was reported nearby on Glidden Road just south of Cherry Valley Road.

The driver, Laura Herren, 19, of DeKalb, lost control of her car and struck a utility pole. Herren was not injured in the accident.

A car in rural Kirkland overturned on Pearl Street just north of Wolfe Road at 5:23 p.m.

The driver, Cody T. Pyszka, 21, of Garden Prairie, lost control of his car on the snow-covered road. Pyszka was not injured in the accident.

Another accident was reported shortly after in the same area.

A car westbound on Cherry Valley Road just west of Pearl Street ran off the road at 8:30 p.m.

The driver, Aaron Keith McKay, 22, of Loves Park, lost control of the car on the wet, snowy pavement and struck a chain-linked fence in a ditch. McKay did not receive any injuries.

Another accident was reported at 6:02 p.m. on Baseline Road west of Oak Meadow Drive.

The driver, Jose Antonio Mascote, 22, of Genoa, lost control of his car on the snow covered road and went into the south ditch and struck several trees.

Mascote and his passenger were not injured in the accident.
