Police search for blunt weapon

A weapon believed to have been involved in Friday’s slaying of Sycamore resident Frank R. Riccardi is the object of a police search.

Police believe the weapon used in the killing was a baseball bat.

“We have been unable to find it yet,” said DeKalb County Sheriff Roger A. Scott.

Police are looking in areas surrounding the crime scene and other areas the defendant, Eric A. Laskowski, 23, 29086 Malta Road, Kirkland, clued police to, Scott said.

Police found Riccardi’s body at 6:30 a.m. Friday after a call about a possible motor vehicle accident on Byers Road in Kirkland. Police said Riccardi’s injuries were consistent with a blunt object.

The incident was a drug deal that went wrong, police said.

Police arrested Laskowski later that day for charges of murder, armed robbery and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver. His bond is set at $3 million.

The investigation continues, Scott said.
