Common drops out of Kanye West show
October 12, 2005
Rap artist Common will now be able to add one more title to his name: actor.
It was announced Tuesday Common has dropped from Kanye West’s tour scheduled to hit the Convocation Center Nov. 12 at 8 p.m.
“It’s unfortunate to see something like this happen,” said Kevin Selover, marketing manager for the Convo Center.
Common has just landed a film role and his scheduling demands are such that he will be unable to perform, according to the Chicago Tribune.
West said he would have loved to have had Common join him on the road as planned, but he fully supports his friend’s decision. West said there is not going to be a replacement for Common, the Tribune reported.
Selover does not think the announcement will affect the show’s attendance.
“Ninety-nine percent of people who bought a ticket are there to see Kanye West,” Selover said.
West began his “Touch the Sky” tour Tuesday night in Miami. “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino and Keyshia Cole will remain as West’s opening acts.
