Fight breaks out at frat

A fight involving several NIU football players broke out early Friday morning at the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house, 900 Greenbrier Road.

DeKalb Police Sgt. Jason Leverton said DeKalb police arrived about 1:30 a.m. to restore order. Seven DeKalb squad cars responded to the incident.

Three people needed medical attention and were taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Leverton said.

Leverton said no arrests have been made but an investigation is underway.

DeKalb police declined to name the players involved.

“There were some football players involved,” DeKalb Police Chief Bill Feithen said. “The NIU athletic and judicial departments have been notified of the fight.”

NIU football coach Joe Novak said if any players are arrested as a result of the fight, they will be suspended until the matter is resolved.

“If nothing comes out of it legally, it will be dealt with as a team,” Novak said.

Pi Kappa Alpha president Tom Tucker declined comment about the fight until a police report is available to the media.

The police report from the fight was not available over the weekend.
