Prism to host Human Auction

By Steve Jankowski

Prism will host a Human Auction to benefit victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita Thursday in the Holmes Student Center’s Duke Ellington Ballroom from 6:30 to 11 p.m.

All proceeds will go to the Red Cross.

Kristin Johnson, who will emcee and deejay the event, came up with the idea while driving to campus one morning and hearing first-hand testimonials from the victims of Katrina.

She felt motivated to do something to help and contacted Prism, NIU’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organization. Johnson said Prism has been very helpful.

At the auction, people will be auctioned off for dates or services they can offer. Johnson also will auction herself off.

“Whoever ‘wins’ me will receive three days of personal training and fitness advice,” she said.

Johnson said if anyone has a service they would like to offer, or if they want to auction themselves off for a date, they are welcome to.

If you would like to be auctioned off, visit Prism’s Web site at www.niuprism.com and click the Hurricane Katrina Benefit Auction link on the right side of the page.
