Garage fire leaves none hurt

By Andy McMurray

A fire on College Avenue Monday evening left a garage and an automobile a smoldering, burned-out mess.

Firefighters were on the scene by about 6:10 p.m. and worked to extinguish the blaze for about 45 minutes.

The residents, who rented the home at 416 College Ave., were asleep at the time the fire broke out, said Maria Fuerte, the home’s occupant.

Fuerte’s son alerted her to the fire, which resulted in the family’s cable TV being disconnected.

The family had no personal possessions in the garage save for Fuerte’s son’s bicycle. The bike was lost in the inferno, Fuerte said.

The car in the garage belonged to Fuerte’s brother, she said.

There were no injuries but fire officials said an investigation of the cause was pending.
