A 43-year-old DeKalb man was apprehended late Tuesday night on campus after his alleged role in a home invasion.

DeKalb police responded to a report of home invasion and aggravated battery at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday night in the 300 block of Augusta Avenue.

Police said Willie Wilson, 629 High Terrace, borrowed a bicycle from a person at the location. When Wilson returned the bicycle, he ran into the building and up the stairs, knocking down the victim as police attempted to stop him.

Police said Wilson then kicked down an apartment door and cut a second victim with a large knife. Wilson picked up the victim’s keys after being struck by the victim with a wooden railing before fleeing on foot.

Police apprehended Wilson near the NIU Music Building after a foot chase. He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, two counts of battery, criminal damage to property and possession of cannabis.

DeKalb and University Police were unavailable for comment as of press time.
