The Bravery: Self-Titled

By Collin Quick

It can be said that bands and artists that sound the same all emerge around the same time as one another.

In 2001, it was the year of the “The” bands. The Hives. The Vines. The Strokes. Every band that graced the scene needed an indefinite article.

2002 brought the male and female singer/songwriters like John Mayer and Avril Lavigne singing about wonderland-esque bodies and things being complicated.

2003 saw the likes of Coldplay and Norah Jones dominating the airwaves with their artful styles, while last year was a mix between punk bands like Yellowcard and synth rockers like Franz Ferdinand and The Killers.

And that’s where The Bravery fits in. They have come through and added their touch with dance beats, running bass lines and high-toned voices that still bring a style and grace to the music that can be appreciated.

The New York-based rockers go above and beyond what is needed and defy expectations and show that they may be following in the footsteps of their counterparts, but they are making their own tracks just inches away.

So who, or what, is next?
