Fire destroys Malta barn

By David Gomez

Local authorities are investigating a fire that broke out at a pole barn in rural Malta Monday morning.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s police responded to the fire at 3379 Twombly Road at 11:33 a.m. Police said the barn, owned by Marlin Anderson, 54, of the same address, was completely destroyed.

About 30 to 35 firefighters from Malta, DeKalb, Sycamore, Creston, Rochelle, Kirkland, Shabbona and Flagg Center worked on the fire until about 2:30 p.m., said Dave Gommel, Malta’s assistant fire chief.

There is no damage loss estimate since it is unknown how much was in the barn, Gommel said.

Gommel said there were no injuries. No one was in the building when the fire broke out.

The fire is under investigation by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the Malta Fire Department.
