Illumination station: admiring the stars

By Greg Feltes

Ashley Patterson loves movies, but she has a greater affection for those who star in them.

Patterson, a freshman early childhood education major, said her favorite actors and actresses all share a common bond.

“I really appreciate a person who takes chances with their roles and wants to inspire someone to do the same,” she said.

10. Lisa Raye – “I really liked her in ‘The Players Club.’ She played a stripper who didn’t like her job but did it to take care of her son. She was really good at portraying her conflict.”

9. Halle Berry – “She was so good when she was saving her son’s life in ‘Monster’s Ball.’ She inspires me. She makes a bad movie watchable. I even want to see ‘Catwoman.’”

8. Jackie Chan – “The ‘Rush Hour’ movies are some of my favorites. His stunts are really good. I can’t believe he risks his life for a movie.”

7. J-Boog – “He was in ‘You Got Served.’ The reason he is on my list is because he is fine.”

6. Jamie Foxx – “I loved him in ‘Ray.’ I was crying the whole movie. He played Ray Charles so well. It was a perfect imitation.”

5. Denzel Washington – “I really liked ‘Remember the Titans.’ He plays a lot of positive roles. I was so happy when he won the Oscar.”

4. Aaliyah – “She was my role model forever. She didn’t try and overact and just played her role.”

3. DMX – “He plays evil really well. Some singers can’t act, but he’s not one of them.”

2. Chris Tucker – “He is so goofy and so funny. He makes me laugh every time.”

1. Ice Cube – “Because he looks good, and I loved him in the roles in his ‘Friday’ movies.”
