Four shots fired at front door of house

DeKalb police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the 800 block of Ellwood Avenue.

Police responded at 12:50 a.m. to two separate callers who reported shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, police found four bullet holes through the front door of a house at 857 Ellwood Ave.

The house was empty at the time, said DeKalb police Sgt. Jason Leverton, and police are still attempting to contact the owners.

There are no suspects or leads at this time, Leverton said.

Leverton said while there is a chance the shooting was random, there is usually a motive involved in such incidents.

The area has not had a problem with gang-related activity in the past, Leverton said.

“It’s actually a quiet neighborhood,” Leverton said.
